Date and time confirmed for Australian endurance athlete John Van Wisse’s attempt to break record for swimming from one side of Loch Ness to the other





Australian endurance swimmer John Van Wisse will be attempting his record-breaking Loch Ness swim tomorrow.

Van Wisse is hoping to beat a time that has stood for 29 years by swimming from one end of the loch to the other.

He had given himself a window so that the impact of inclement conditions would be minimised, as well as waiting until he had arrived in the Highlands to determine which direction he would be swimming.

However, after months of training – and even a failed attempt as a result of the conditions changing part-way through the swim last year – it has now been decided that Van Wisse will set off from Fort Augustus at 7am tomorrow morning aiming for Lochend.

The existing record was set by Rachel Godburn in 1995, with a time to beat of nine hours, 25 minutes and seconds for crossing the entire 25.6 miles (36.3 kilometres).
