BLYTHSWOOD Care’s Highland Foodbank is asking that those who intend to contribute special items for Christmas do so by this Friday, December 2.

Foodbank coordinator Lorna Dempster says the Highland public are incredibly generous with food donations all year round and appreciates the thoughtfulness of donors who contribute festive fare such as mince pies and Christmas cake, but because it takes time to distribute the food, a deadline has been set.

She said: “It’s always distressing when you don’t know where the next meal is coming from, but it’s especially hard at Christmas, when everyone else seems to be celebrating.

“We’re so grateful for local people rising to the occasion each year to support those in need, and to bring a touch of Christmas into their lives with donations of some seasonal foods.”

The foodbank is well stocked with cheaper items such as beans, but festive items such as tins of ham are not so plentiful.

Donations in Inverness can be dropped off at the Foodbank warehouse within the Blythswood Care Superstore at 15b Harbour Road IV1 1SY.
