A well-known former Highland councillor has died aged 90.

Norrie Donald, who previously served as the Independent representative for Inverness Ness-side, lived at Dores.

His home once housed the UK's smallest post office which at one time was also dubbed the smallest in the world.

Housed in a 4ft by 7ft broom cupboard, it was run by his ex-wife, Lily King, until she died two years ago, aged 72.

Although the couple had split up, they remained friends.

Following her death, Mr Donald said he was happy for someone else to take it on at his home but the Post Office decided it would not be able to continue there.

Mr Donald was originally from Aberdeen.

He had served as secretary of the Scottish Pool Association, been proprietor of the Saltoun Arms in Aberdeen and later worked as a taxi driver.

Mr Donald, who died peacefully at Raigmore Hospital, leaves three sons.

His funeral service takes place on Thursday at noon in the funeral home of William T Fraser and Son, Culduthel Road, Inverness, and afterwards at Dores Cemetery. All welcome to attend.

Donations are invited for Alzheimer Scotland.
