Inverness MSP Fergus Ewing gives further indication of political future; plus gulls ‘menace’
Gull menace ‘being handled poorly’
Action to tackle aggressive gulls in Inverness and other urban settings is “no further forward”, worried Highland MSPs fear after crunch meetings. Highlands and Islands MSP Douglas Ross, and Inverness and Nairn MSP Fergus Ewing were speaking after joining forces to try to address “ongoing problems” caused by over-protective gulls during the breeding season.
“If there isn't food to come into town for they won't. Perhaps the MSPs should concern themselves about litter, especially from food outlets.” - Susan Foster
“Leave them alone!” - Suzanne Mackillop
“Suzanne Mackillop, that's what I shouted yesterday to an enormous gull that was attacking the ducks in my garden.” - Gemma Blazquez
“They should maybe add some pressure to NatureScot who are not willing to issue licenses for a second year.” - Mac Card

Fergus Ewing ’sorely tempted’ to stand as independent
SNP MSP Fergus Ewing has given his biggest indication yet that he may well stand as an independent candidate for the constituency at the next Holyrood election. The MSP has been at loggerheads with several key party policies in recent years.
“Hope he does, he is needed.” - Maryrose Wright
“I really hope he does. He put constituents before party anyway but as an independent he’d be free from harassment and free to do whatever he needs to do to serve the constituency without interference.” - Kim Corbett
“Here we see a rare decent politician.” - Andy Whit
“Took him a long time to think about it. He’ll never match his mother, whatever party he chooses!” - Anne Souter
“He's been an old school Tartan Tory all along anyway, most of his family consider him an embarrassment. Boot him to the curb, he only got anywhere by hanging onto his ma's skirts!” - Rob Ford
“I hope he has the SNP whip removed. I vote for him, but only because he’s SNP. He’s lived on his mother’s name for years and miles behind her in political ability. He should join Alba with the other SNP grievance types.” - Garry Douglas
