The future of a council-owned historic building in Nairn is set to be decided after officers who occupy it move to the Courthouse offices.

Highland Council officers will be moving out of the Nairn Finance Office – also known as the Italianate building – in Courthouse Lane in November, with the council set to dispose of the b-listed building.

In a recent newsletter, Councillor Paul Oldham said: "The council has two options: it can dispose of it on the open market or it can transfer it to a local organisation by way of a Community Asset Transfer.

"There was some investigation as to whether Nairn Library could move there but it wasn’t a suitable building for that use."

Community Asset Transfers were introduced by the The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 and give the right for community bodies to make requests for ownership, lease, management or use of publicly owned buildings or land whether or not they are available for sale or considered surplus to requirements.

More information can be found in the Community Planning section of Highland Council's website.
