Inverness drug-driving offence led to work suspension for East Ayrshire
A 38-year-old former Inverness man who was suspended from work following a court appearance turned to drugs to help him cope.
But Alistair Kelly, now of High Street, New Milns, East Ayrshire got into further trouble with the law as he got behind the wheel of his car and was stopped for a check by police on patrol in the Merkinch area on the afternoon of December 12 last year.
Fiscal depute Sophie Marshall told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald at Inverness Sheriff Court that officers could smell cannabis from the vehicle and tests carried out proved positive for the Class B drug with 3.4mcgs of it in his system when the legal driving limit is 2mcgs.
He was also positive for the metabolite of cocaine, benzoylecgonine with 396mcgs when the legal limit is 50mcgs. He admitted driving with both substances in his blood.
Defence solicitor Roger Webb said: "As a result of the most recent offence, he was suspended from work and this resulted in a downward spiral."
Kelly was fined £520 and banned from driving for a year.
