A major creative funding boost is set to transform opportunities for artists in the Highlands, with Eden Court announcing plans to invest in homegrown talent, commission new work, and launch an ambitious new season packed with exciting performances and community projects.

The funding of £2.5million over three years from Creative Scotland will enable the Inverness-based arts venue to nurture emerging artists, create paid opportunities, and showcase more local work on its stages and screens.

For artists working in the Highlands, where opportunities can often feel limited compared to the central belt, this investment is a welcome lifeline.

Eden Court’s chief executive, Rebecca Holt, says the funding will have a lasting impact on the region’s creative landscape.

"We know there is a wealth of talent in the Highlands, and we want to make sure artists here have the resources, support, and platforms they need to thrive," Ms Holt said.

"This investment will allow us to commission more work from Highland-based artists, ensuring their voices are heard and their stories are told. It’s about making creativity sustainable in this region—giving artists the confidence that they can build their careers here without feeling they have to move to Glasgow or Edinburgh to succeed."

One of the most exciting aspects of the funding is its focus on commissioning new work, meaning that more original pieces will be developed and staged at Eden Court.

This initiative will support a range of art forms—from theatre and dance to music, spoken word, and visual art—providing opportunities for both established and emerging creatives to bring their ideas to life.

Ms Holt said: "We’re not just looking at short-term projects—we want to build lasting relationships with artists and give them the tools and opportunities they need to develop their work.

"That could mean mentoring, rehearsal space, financial support, or even just having a venue that truly champions them. We want Eden Court to be the beating heart of creativity in the Highlands."

Alongside the investment in artists, Eden Court is also preparing to unveil its latest brochure, showcasing an ambitious new season of performances, screenings, and creative workshops.

"This season is all about celebrating creativity in its many forms," said Ms Holt.

"We have some fantastic productions lined up, including work by local artists, visiting companies, and community-led projects. We want to make sure there’s something for everyone—from theatre and dance to film, comedy, and live music."

Acts include King Creosote, Capercaillie, Status Quo’s Francis Rossi and eighties legend Paul Young. The OneTouch Theatre will play host to a diverse and electrifying array of acclaimed musicians, including Anna Massie, Kim Carnie, Sian, Lisa McHugh and Siobhan Miller.

Musical theatre enthusiasts can look forward to thrilling stage adaptations, including the Scottish cult cinema classic Restless Natives, rock’n’roll musical classic Rocky Horror Show and the magical world of Narnia in the acclaimed West End production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

A compelling drama programme includes standout productions like the powerful Irish sensation Myra’s Story, National Theatre of Scotland’s thrillingly irreverent Through the Shortbread Tin and gripping thriller The Girl on the Train, based on the runaway best-selling novel.

Meanwhile, classical music and opera lovers can anticipate breathtaking performances from Scottish Opera’s The Merry Widow, Scottish Ballet’s Mary, Queen of Scots and concerts by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Ensemble.

Eden Court’s comedy offering features a lineup of renowned stand-up comedians, including Jason Manford, Jack Dee, Dara Ó Briain and Russell Kane, whilst politician-turned-performer Mhairi Black has already sold out a night in the OneTouch Theatre.

In the summer months, the focus turns to Eden Court’s music festival Under Canvas, returning for its seventh year.

Taking place in July and August, the outdoor event brings an eclectic mix of traditional, folk and contemporary music to the heart of Inverness.

One of the events that has been well-received is the Bryan Adams gig on April 25.

There was so much interest in the gig, that a matinee performance has now been added.

Ms Holt said: “We knew Bryan Adams would be a huge draw, but the response has been phenomenal.

“We’re delighted to be able to add a matinee performance, giving even more people the opportunity to experience this incredible show."

Beyond the immediate impact of the funding, there’s a clear long-term vision: to position the Highlands as a place where artists can live, work, and thrive without having to leave in search of opportunities elsewhere.

"Too often, we see talented artists leaving the region because they don’t feel there’s enough support here," Ms Holt said.

"We want to change that. This funding is just the beginning—we are committed to making the Highlands a place where creativity is valued, supported, and celebrated at every level."

With a new season launching, fresh commissions in the pipeline, and a renewed focus on nurturing homegrown talent, Eden Court is making a bold statement about the future of the arts in the Highlands.

Having been crowned Venue of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards last year, things are looking good for Eden Court.
