Firefighters from six different stations tackled the devastating blaze at the Fairways Business Park in Inverness.

The fire, which destroyed several businesses, happened just after midnight on Sunday morning when a car was deliberately driven into a building and then torched.

About 30 full time and retained firefighters from Inverness, Beauly, Drumnadrochit, Nairn, Dingwall and Invergordon were called to the scene.

Inverness South councillor Duncan Macpherson, who was at the scene for about 40 minutes, described the strength of the fire as “absolutely incredible” and said the blaze could have been much worse if not for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

He said the efforts of the firefighters prevented other buildings just metres from the flames from also being engulfed.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said firefighters were met with a “well-developed fire”.

The spokesperson confirmed that a joint investigation alongside colleagues from Police Scotland is now ongoing.
