North Cost 500: Fatal crash investigation works on A862 Inverness-Beauly road near Kirkhill to cause ;intermittent closures’ and some disruption, Police Scotland officers warn Highland motorists

Police investigating a fatal crash on the North Coast 500 have warned of closures on the route when officers revisit the site this morning.

Police Scotland said its officers will be working on the A862 Inverness-Beauly road near Kirkhill from 9.30am until around midday.

“Officers will be carrying out enquiries in connection with a fatal road crash on the A862 Inverness to Beauly road on Saturday, May 17,” said a spokesperson.

“Please be aware that intermittent closures may be required during these times.”

The crash on May 17 involved a black Mazda CX5 car and two Yamaha MT07 motorbikes and took place around 11.05am at the A862’s junction with the A833.

One of the motorcyclists, 67-year-old Avoch man Gilbert Duncan, died at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary three days later.

The driver of the car and the other motorcyclist were uninjured.

The 47-year-old male driver of the car was arrested at the time in connection with alleged road traffic offences and released pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information about the crash, witnessed it or has dashcam footage is asked to contact police on 101 quoting ‘incident 1290 of Saturday, May 17’.
