Demolition work has started on a row of shops destroyed in a massive blaze at an Inverness business park last month.

Six retail units at Fairways Business Park were damaged when a car was deliberately driven into the premises and set alight.

The incident, which happened just after midnight on March 9, has been the subject of a joint police and fire investigation.

Community left questioning who was behind blaze

Following the incident, a major hunt was launched for a masked fire-raiser drove a Skoda Octavia into the premises.

The building and car were then set alight.

In an exclusive interview with the Inverness Courier, the building’s owner, Ewan Mcfarlane - who was abroad on holiday at the time of the incident - said he shared the community’s sense of shock and anger at what had happened.

He has vowed to rebuild the premises as soon as possible, subject to planning permission.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed inquiries are still ongoing.
