People attending tonight’s fireworks display at Bught Park in Inverness can look forward to an “amazing” spectacle, says the company behind the show.

Fireworx Scotland gave the assurance after its display enjoyed by thousands at Forres at the weekend was unfortunately cut short by three minutes due to “technical difficulties”.

The company’s director Mark Copland said he and his team were gutted and investigating what happened.

But he said tonight’s display at the bonfire in Inverness uses a different system.

“It is going to be an amazing show,” said Mr Copland, adding it will last 16 minutes and 43 seconds and is based on a fire and ice theme,

The event in Forres, organised by the local Rotary club every year, was enjoyed by almost 4000 people for free.

Typically, the fireworks spectacular would last for about 20 minutes but was cut slightly short on Saturday due problems as a result of a software issue.

Mr Copland said it had never happened before in all the years of staging events and was outwith the company’s control.

He said the team had spent months working on the display.

“You would not believe the disappointment when something like this happens and it is outwith our control,” he said.

“It is soul destroying.

“We will get to the bottom of it and it will not happen again.”

He added a “special” display would take place in Forres next year.

Tonight’s Inverness event is staged by Highland Council.

It will begin at 5pm with food vendors followed by a performance around the base of the bonfire by Fly Agaric Fire Display Team at 5.30pm.

The bonfire will be lit at 6pm followed by the fireworks display at 7pm.
