Sam's Indian restaurant owner plans flats development above Inverness city centre premises
An Inverness restaurant owner is hoping to serve up new city centre apartments for Inverness.
Businessman Sam Miah, who runs the award-winning Sam’s Indian Cuisine on Church Street, is seeking permission to create four self-contained properties above his ground floor premises.
The two vacant floors would each contain two one-bedroom flats if planning approval is secured from Highland Council.
It is not yet known if Mr Miah plans to sell or rent the properties if approved, but estate agents in Inverness have recently reported unprecedented levels of low stock in rental properties and record numbers of applicants.
Planning papers show that the first floor of the building at 77-79 Church Street is currently vacant, but already has consent to host letting rooms.
The second floor is currently used as a loft storage space.
The application to convert to four flats includes plans to extend the main stairway within the building, as well as replacement of windows.
The matter will be considered under Highland planning officials’ delegated powers, with any public comments to be submitted by October 12.
Mr Miah has been approached for comment.
