Flooding sparks disruption to Inverness-Glasgow rail services; trains not running between Stirling and Perth as a result of floods, ScotRail warns
FLOODING is set to cause further misery for rail passengers travelling between Inverness and Glasgow, ScotRail has warned.
Bus replacements services are in effect between Perth and Glasgow after flooding near Stirling sparked the cancellation of all trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Perth.
"Because of heavy rain we have flooding at Mill O'Keir viaduct between Stirling and Perth, the line is currently closed because of the depth of the water," said a ScotRail spokesman.
"A specialist team have been on-site and have carried out initial inspections on some of the viaduct but because of the high level and fast flowing of the water some areas are unable to be inspected. A further inspection will be carried out by colleagues today (Monday) if it is safe to do so and once we have feedback from them a decision will be taken on the safest course of action to allow the line to be re-opened.
"Disruption unfortunately is therefore ongoing and once we have a further update from the team, we will let you know.
"Replacement coaches are operating a shuttle service between Stirling and Perth calling at all stations.
Because of the use of road transport your journey time will be extended and we apologise for the disruption to you journey on this route, if you are delayed over 30 minutes you can make a claim by visiting ScotRail.co.uk/delay-repay."
They added that the disruption is expected to last until at least 4pm on Monday.
The flooding follows a series of recent storms which have battered Scotland with high winds and heavy rain. A further weather warning was in place on Monday for heavy snow.
