Inverness rock festival Monsterfest set for final bow as fans from across UK and Europe enjoy covers of greats including Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy with headline acts Kris Barras Band, Ricky Warwick and the Fighting Hearts and Marco Mendoza & Mats Leven
It will be the final countdown for rock fans of all ages as the very last instalment of a popular Inverness music festival begins next week.
Monsterfest 2024, first staged in 2018, will bid farewell to followers with shows in various city venues from Thursday, November 8.
With just one break during the Covid pandemic, the event has proven successful in attracting not just local rock advocates, but fans from all over the UK and Europe.
The climax will be the main event at Eden Court Theatre on November 8 and 9.
Organisers have confirmed this will be the final edition of Monsterfest as they contemplate other projects in the future.
Big names set to perform this year include Ricky Warwick, the frontman of both The Almighty and the latest version of Thin Lizzy, who will be playing an exclusive UK show with his solo band ahead of his next album release in 2025.
Also on the bill over the weekend is the current top new rock act in the UK, Kris Barras Band who scored a top 5 in the national album charts in April.
Bringing a huge classic rock flavour to the weekend will be former Journey, Whitesnake, The Dead Daisies and Thin Lizzy bassist Marco Mendoza.
The American will be leading a star line-up including Adrian Vandenberg’s singer Mats Leven from Sweden on the Friday night, where they will play some of Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake’s greatest hits.
They will also be joined by local musicians Josh Mackenzie and Kenna Ross.
Marco will also be the star attraction at this years Education Day which the festival has run since the start.
Nearly a hundred school students will hear from music industry insiders as well an insight into Marco’s musical background which included playing the wrap party for the film ‘Dirty Dancing’ back in 1987.
Apart from the headliners, there will be a wealth of both UK and local acts on the festival bill throughout the weekend including up and coming acts Muddibrooke and Stone Angels, as well as local favourites Lucid Liars and Bad Actress.
Monsterfest has worked closely with many local businesses over the years, with Loch Ness Water, The Glen Mhor and Uile-bheist Distillery, Eastgate Centre and Dickson’s
motors all playing a major role, along with funding from the Highland Council Common Good
Fund.
