Scottish School of Forestry's family activity day in Inverness to include chainsaw challenge

The Scottish School of Forestry in Inverness will host its popular family activity day next Saturday.

The free event is an opportunity for people to find out what goes on at the school and take part in a range of activities based around forestry and wildlife management.

There will be opportunities to build a bird box, take on the chainsaw challenge, participate in bushcraft activities, find out about wood crafts, and learn how to identify trees, wildlife and bugs.

The machinery shed will be open and there will be demonstrations from school staff, who will also talk about the range of courses offered and careers in the industry.

The event runs from 10am-3pm. The café will be serving food.

The family activity day follows a schools-only event next Friday, with more than 250 primary three pupils expected.

Amanda Bryan, interim head at the school, said: “We’re always looking at new ways to engage young people in forestry and the range of careers available.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to come in and explore our grounds, find out more about what we do at the Scottish School of Forestry and have fun discovering more about forestry and wildlife.”
