Friends reunited! Former Inverness pupils gather 70 years on

SEVENTY years after they first met, a group of former school friends have reunited over afternoon tea.

Pupils who started at Inverness Royal Academy in 1949 enjoyed their fifth official reunion at the Craigmonie Hotel in Inverness last Wednesday.

Mary Gall (82) said it was great to meet up with old friends again, share memories of school times and get updates on what was happening in everyone’s lives since their last get-together.

“It was great to be at the Craigmonie again, especially as many among us were born there in 1937, when it was still the Ida Merry maternity home,” she said.

“Charles Bannerman, who was a teacher at the school and wrote four books on it, gave a lovely talk about the memories at school.

“This will probably be our last reunion, as we are all 82 now!”

Former teacher Patricia Forbes (94) also attended.

The former pupils started their reunions back in 1995 and have met in 2000, 2005 and 2015.
