Saturday saw local group Nairn Trad Sessions stage a special music event to raise funds for Nairn Community and Arts Centre, with more than £1300 raised in support of the charity.

On the night, the Nairn Sessions Band was joined by singers George Livingstone and Tony Perridge of Ardersier International Folk Club and Scottish country dancers from Moray and Nairn led by Kate McArdle.

An additional generous donation of £500 from the Ardersier Club was handed over by Mr Livingstone to Rhona MacDonald, the Nairn centre manager, as he stressed the importance of arts organisations and venues supporting each other in these difficult times.

Dave Godden, who runs Nairn Trad Sessions and was the main organiser behind the event, said: “A huge thank you to all the musicians and performers who gave freely of their time, and to the audience who turned up and danced in great numbers to support our local centre, which is such an important part of the community in Nairnshire.

“The centre is an independent, self-funding charity which provides a superb service.”

More events will be held through the year and people are also encouraged to support the centre - which, like many other cultural institutions, has been suffering from tighter funds and increasing running costs - where possible, for example by becoming Supporters or Patrons.
