A sponsored row between Nairn and the Sutors of Cromarty is to be undertaken by Nairn and Ardersier Coastal Rowing Club in aid of RNLI and a new boatshed at Nairn harbour for the club.

Less than three years since it was formed, the club is now keen to get its own boat shed.

Club chairman Bernie Welsh said: “The club have two boats, Ester and Dulsie, both St Ives Skiffs.

“The Ester was built by the Ardersier club before they joined forces with Nairn.

“Dulsie was built by a band of Nairn volunteers in the Old Stables at Viewfield, Nairn.”

Mr Welsh added: “Recently the club have had an influx of new members and both boats can be seen on the water every other day.”

Although the number of organised regattas throughout the Moray Firth has been curtailed due to the pandemic, the club had some limited success at Golspie and participated in the Strathpeffer Regatta held at the Storehouse in the Cromarty Firth on Saturday. Both boats
will take part in the sponsored 14-mile row to the Sutors of Cromarty this Saturday.

“There will be two full crews of five and additional members on support boats,” Mr Welsh said.

“The row, weather permitting, will start at 8.30am.”

The rowing club along with the local branch of the RNLI will be in attendance at the harbour at 9.30am selling raffles, bric-a-brac and its merchandise.
