Gamekeeper in charity beard shave for Highland Hospice
A RETIRED gamekeeper will be parting with his much-loved beard of 43 years at the Highland Field Sports Fair at Moy this weekend to raise funds for charity.
Neil Lyon from Glenurquhart has been offered centre stage in the main arena at 4pm on Friday at the ever-popular event, to mark this memorable occasion which will raise funds for the Highland Hospice.
The 65-year-old whose beloved beard will be shaved off by barber Bill Treasurer, owner of Uppercut Men’s Hairdresser in Inverness, has already raised an incredible £2,400.
He said: "I’m beginning to feel a bit nervous about my transformation. I don’t think many people will recognise me once my beard and hair have gone! I’m doing this for a really good cause, and really hope people will get behind me and support me."
Mr Lyon has worked for 18 years for Sir Samuel and Lady Whitbread, owners of Beaufort & Eskadale Estate.
Linda Macdonald, Highland Hospice’s fundraising manager, said: "We’re all behind Neil all the way with his "Big Shave" and can’t wait to see the result. It is wonderful that he has chosen to support Highland Hospice in this way, and I would urge everyone who knows Neil to show their support."
Highland Hospice is the only hospice serving adults with incurable life limiting illness in the Highlands of Scotland, and is acknowledged as a resource of specialist palliative care expertise.
