Green light for food trailer at Culloden Battlefield in Inverness
A CATERING trailer will now be allowed beside the Culloden Battlefield after Historic Environment Scotland (HES) withdrew its initial concern that it would be visible from the core of the evocative site.
Highland Council has granted planning after the National Trust for Scotland, which manages the site, agreed to reposition the catering unit nearer to the visitor centre.
HES said the initially proposed location, while close to the visitor centre and car parking but immediately outwith the manicured landscaping around the centre, would be an expansion of visitor facilities outwith the existing visual envelope of the centre, extending closer to the government lines, where it would be visible from across the core of the battlefield.
While the trailer is temporary and removable, it is likely to attract additional activity increasing the potential impact upon the battlefield said HES, and they were concerned about its impact and appropriateness of the extension of facilities further into the core of the battlefield.
