Highland cuture collective artists present exhibition, following a year of work in local communities
Two artists are to hold an interactive residency this month following a year long project with Highland Culture Collective.
Catriona Meighan and Hector MacInnes, will present ATTEND having worked with people including survivors of domestic violence, prisoners in HMP Inverness and people affected by mental health
issues.
The exhibition, to be held at Inverness Creative Academy will open daily from November 4 to 12.
It will feature work co-created by the artists and communities they work with, plus the artists’ own work and research.
Alongside the exhibition, there will be a series of special events, which will give attendees a chance to learn more about and join in with the artists’ work.
These events include;
- - iPads for improvisors, where participants will learn to make music using a system of networked iPads that Hector and his collaborators have co-created over the last year.
- - Artists in Conversation- Catriona & Hector will speak in depth about their work, and another artist-in-residence, Sinead Hargan, will give a creative response to the exhibition.
As a socially-engaged visual artist, Catriona Meighan has been working alongside women and children who have been impacted by domestic abuse, in collaboration with Inverness Women’s Aid,
Ross Shire Women’s Aid & CASWA (Caithness & Sutherland Women’s’ Aid).
Together, they have explored several creative mediums including print making and creative writing, bringing their work together to make posters and zines.
Catriona has also worked with young volunteers who are taking a stance against sexual violence through RASASH’s volunteering project, Stand Up!
Meanwhile, over the last year, sound artist Hector MacInnes has worked regularly with inmates at HMP Inverness to develop iPad interfaces which they use as instruments in their improvised orchestra.
He has also worked with clients of mental health organisation, Am Fasgadh in Portree to develop a ‘listening group’ and create new radio programmes of their own.
