Life-saving aid for Ukraine will be delivered in person by a Highland MP next month.

Angus MacDonald, who is the Lib-Dem MP for Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire, is one of several cross-party MPs and MSPs who will be driving ambulances to deliver the vital aid to Ukraine as its people continue in their fight against Russian invaders.

Mr MacDonald will be joined by Scottish Lib-Dem leader Alex Cole-Hamilton, Winchester MP Danny Chambers, and Labour MSP Paul Sweeney, when they drive the aid to Ukraine in April.

They have partnered with the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA), Mighty Convoy, and the Christian Medical Association of Ukraine (CMA), for the life-saving aid delivery.

So far, the charities have already raised more than £1.3 million and sent over 150 lorry loads and over 40 ambulances of purchased and donated medical supplies worth over £10 million to provide vital medical aid to Ukraine since February 2022.

Explaining his role in the latest delivery, Mr MacDonald, who is a former member of the armed forces, said: “Ukraine needs our help. Michie, my wife, and I are very keen to do our bit.

“In early April a group of us from Parliament will drive non stop to Ukraine with 5 ambulances loaded with medical supplies.

“The Russians have been targeting hospitals and medical services and we know the Ukrainians are desperate for ambulances, both for recovering military casualties but also taking the many civilians who are injured by shelling and glide bombs to hospital.

“We need to raise the money to buy the ambulances and medical kit, will you please, please make a donation — your funding could save an innocent person’s life."

A spokesperson for the ICMDA added: “As Russia continues to bomb civilians, towns, and infrastructure, it’s urgent that we act to help. We are raising funds to donate several ambulances filled with tonnes of donated medical aid and equipment to hospitals in Ukraine.

“One second-hand ambulance costs £7000 to purchase, service and drive to Ukraine. Please donate to the campaign.”
