Highlands and Islands students travel to London to join the Peoples’ March in support of a second EU membership referendum before Brexit
DOZENS of students from across the Highlands are heading to London to march for a second EU membership referendum.
They will travel overnight from Inverness to take part in the Peoples’ March tomorrow.
Highlands and Islands Student Association (HISA) and Highland Europa, are organising the 36-hour round trip to ensure students' voices are heard.
This week more than two million people signed a petition to stop article 50.
Highland students will join hundreds of thousands of others to march on Parliament – hoping to offer a solution to the Brexit crisis they believe threatens living standards, businesses and jobs.
HISA vice president for higher education Sorcha Kirker, said a second referendum was the only solution available to avoid generations of turmoil and financial disaster.
She added: "It’s outrageous that Theresa May seems more interested in preserving her party than the futures of millions of young people and the country itself.
"The country was lied to during the last Brexit vote and we are marching to right that wrong.
"I am so proud that we have a bus full of people from across the Highlands and Islands who believe in a better future.
"Students are a vital part of the push for a People’s Vote, as it is their future that is at stake with Brexit."
HISA members come from across the UK and Europe, with some travelling from Orkney and Stornoway to get to London for tomorrow's march.
