Inverness’s newest ten-pin bowling alley will open its doors at the end of March, it has been announced.

The multi-million venue Hollywood Bowl, which is currently being fitted out in the former Sports Direct store in Eastfield Way, will officially open its doors on March 29

Excitement about the £3.1m venue has been building ever since the project was given the green light by planners.

And in the months since then, residents of the city have been eagerly awaiting every new milestone in its development.

So news that its opening day is now just over a month away is likely to send interest soaring further.

When it does open it means the whole of the building - which once also house Everlast Gym alongside Sport Direct - will be back in use once more.

Part of the site has already returned to life after the Innoflate inflatable indoor play park opened shortly before Christmas.

Although Hollywood Bowl will create jobs and add another leisure facility in the east of the Highland capital the plan has not been without controversy, with critics arguing that Inverness may not have the demand needed to sustain two ten-pin bowling alleys. The city already has one in the form of Rollerbowl in Culduthel, and its owner warned that the move to approve Hollywood Bowl could put its 30 existing jobs at risk.
