MORRISON Construction’s section engineer Kim McGowan was last night recognised at the CECA (Civil Engineering Contractors Association) Scotland Awards as the joint-winner of the most promising trainee civil engineer for 2018.

The event celebrates new and emerging talent in the industry.

She accepted her award in front of a crowd of colleagues from across the industry in Glasgow.

Based in Inverness, she has been working for Morrison Construction since finishing her studies at the University of West of Scotland in 2013.

She began her career with the Morrison Construction’s Infrastructure Scotland business as a graduate site engineer at the £50 million Elgin Flood Alleviation Scheme for Moray Council, which was officially opened in 2017.

Since her first job with Morrison Construction, she has gained experience working in the renewable energy sector on wind farm projects the company successfully delivered, including Moy Wind Farm, Windy Standard 2 Wind Farm, Tom Nan Clach Wind Farm enabling works and most recently Dorenell Wind Farm.

She said: ‘‘The award means a lot to me. It is great that my hard work has been recognised by my peers, especially as I am usually the only female on site.

‘‘It was fantastic to be nominated, let alone actually win. I look forward to continuing to learn and progress my career with Morrison Construction.’’
