HIGHLAND Council has said it has closed a popular Inverness bridge after concerns were raised for health and safety.
The iconic Infirmary Bridge over the River Ness near the city centre has been closed indefinitely after decking panels were showing distress.
Councillors recently agreed to invest in the future of the bridge, and gave permission for an overhaul of the bridge's structure.
A spokeswoman for Highland Council said: "The Infirmary footbridge in Inverness has closed on health and safety grounds due to a number of the decking panels exhibiting distress.
"It will remain closed pending a more detailed inspection and analysis."
