REVELLERS heading for tonight’s bonfire and fireworks fun at the Bught Park in Inverness are being asked to to leave their cars at home and take the bus or walk to the event.

The bonfire will be lit by Provost Helen Carmichael at 7.30pm with a 20 minute musical fireworks display scheduled to commence at 7.50pm.

Between 5pm and 9pm tonight temporary traffic restrictions will be in force and drivers are requested to park well away from the Bught as only disabled parking will be provided in the vicinity.

Motorists are advised that for the interests of public safety during the bonfire and fireworks display sections of Bught Road and Ness Walk, Inverness, between the junction with Bught Avenue and the junction with Ballifeary Lane will temporarily close, to vehicular traffic.

While the closure will affect vehicular traffic, pedestrian access and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

There will be temporary one way traffic restrictions on Torvean Avenue, Bught Drive, Bught Avenue and the section of Bught Road, between the junction with Bught Avenue and the junction with the A82 Glasgow – Fort William – Inverness trunk road.

Alternative routes for vehicles will be available using part of Ness Walk, Bishops Road, Ballifeary Road, Ballifeary Lane, Glenurquhart Road and as directed on Torvean Avenue, part of Bught Road, Bught Avenue and Bught Drive.

Parking in the vicinity of the Bught Park will be reserved for disabled parking.

A limited number of parking spaces will be available at Charleston Academy or, alternatively, drivers can use city centre car parking facilities such as at Rose Street multi-storey car park, and the cathedral car park.
