Inverness Castle was bathed in blue light on Sunday evening as a thank you to frontline NHS staff.

The light show was organised by Limelight Event Services and, as well as the blue light backdrop, the display also featured the message "thank you NHS" across the top of the building.

A number of beams also radiated from the landmark.

Craig Duncan, from Limelight, which is based in Carsegate Road in Inverness, said a number of lighting companies from across the UK had decided to do their bit.

He said: "There have been a few other places around the UK being lit up blue to show appreciation for the NHS and key workers, so we thought we would do the same in the Highlands. It was probably a one-off but we may do it again if there is a demand for it."

Gerry Reynolds, Highland Council's Inverness events manager, has been seconded to other duties during the coronavirus pandemic and said, like many others, he only found out about the light show via social media.

He said: "I thought it was a lovely initiative. Fair play to them – it lifted people's spirits."
