Inverness cinema set to celebrate World Theatre Day with stage production screenings
Some of the best British theatre productions will be on show at the Vue cinema in Inverness in the head up to World Theatre Day next week (March 27).
Theatre fans in the Highland capital will have an opportunity to enjoy shows like Sam Mendes’ The Motive and the Cue, The Royal Opera House’s Madama Butterfly and Nye – starring Michael Sheen – on the big screen.
Toby Bradon, General Manager for Vue UK & Ireland: “World Theatre Day is appreciating the wonder of theatre – in all of its forms.
"Here at Vue, we pride ourselves on screening performances from the finest production companies across the UK, giving fans the chance to catch some of the best British performances from the comfort of their local Vue venue.”
Screening from tomorrow is the electrifying play by Sam Mendes, The Motive and The Cue, which follows Richard Burton, newly married to Elizabeth Taylor, as he embarks on playing the title role in an experimental new Broadway production of Hamlet under John Gielgud’s exacting direction.
This award-winning play was filmed live during a sold-out run at the National Theatre.
The eve of World Theatre Day will see the screening the Royal Opera House’s Madama Butterfly. The opera, which will be on show for one night only, tells the story of a young geisha who marries an American Naval Officer. Forsaking her religion and community, she learns all too late that their marriage is merely an illusion – with tragic consequences.
April will then see the arrival on the big screen of Nye, in which Michael Sheen is Nye Bevan – the man who transformed Britain’s welfare state and created the NHS.
In May the cinema will show Bizet's Carmen – a new Royal Opera House production by Damiano Michieletto.
