COLLEGE lecturers are on strike today after pay talks failed to produce any agreement.

Members of the EIS Further Education Lecturers’ Association in Inverness have joined colleagues across Scotland in striking, with another strike set for March 21.

It follows two one-day strikes earlier this year in pursuit of a cost of living pay increase.

Picket lines were seen outside Inverness College UHI at Inverness Campus.

Talks aimed at averting the strikes broke down without a resolution, leaving representatives for colleges exasperated, according to the Colleges Scotland Employers’ Association.

John Gribben, the association’s director of employment services, said: “The Scottish Government has made it clear that there is no more money for lecturers’ pay and colleges have to find the pay deal on offer by making cuts.

“If there were any more money available, our priorities would be for additional investment in enhancing students’ experiences and on further improving college campuses.”
