CITY firm AJG Parcels has been taken over by major logistics company Menzies Distribution.

The Inverness delivery company has grown from an owner-managed operation making 20 deliveries a day two decades ago to one with 140 staff and a fleet of more than 100 GPS-equipped vehicles.

It now makes 9000 deliveries and collects 800 pick-ups on a daily basis.

Menzies, which traditionally delivers overnight for print media publishers, is hoping to unlock the potential of business in daylight hours.

Forsyth Black, managing director of Menzies Distribution, said: "The purchase of AJG is an important step in our ongoing journey to build on our newspaper and magazine distribution business.

"It is especially significant because it allows us to participate in the fast-growing market of parcel delivery and collection."
