Inverness dramatics company takes to the stage - with very special star
Inverness amateur dramatics company, The Florians is taking to the stage this week.
The group of thespians will be bringing the 1937 novella Of Mice and Men to life. The play centres around two itinerant workers, George and Lennie, in California in the 1930s as they start work on a ranch in a place called Soledad (a Spanish word meaning ‘solitude’).
Written by John Steinbeck, the story takes place over a period of four days. While at the ranch, George and Lennie meet other characters, who emphasise the loneliness and difficulty of life for the people living and working in these places.
The Florians production is being directed by English teacher, Jo Galloway and will see a very special star on stage - 13-year-old dog Roxie who will be playing ‘Candy’s dog.’
Speaking about the production, The Florians’ secretary, Caroline Nicol said: “This is the first time we’ve had a live animal on the stage and she is a pivotal part of the play.
“Her owners Steven and Carla Kelly are both members of The Florians and we knew she was the perfect fit for the role.
“She’s very obedient and takes direction very well! She is going to steal everyone’s hearts.”
Of Mice and Men will be running from June 5 - 8 at The Florians Theatre on Bught Drive.
