The Inverness branch of garden and DIY chain Homebase is set to close.

It was reported last week that the firm planned to axe 60 shops across the UK.

Today a list of 42 stores were announced for closure between late 2018 and early 2019, with Inverness on that list.

Homebase was bought for £1 by restructuring company Hillco in May.

Previously it was owned by Australian form Wesfarmers which had hoped to make inroads into the UK.

The move proved to be a disaster, however, with inventory errors and the recent pressures on the UK high street contributing to its problems.

1500 jobs are expected to be lost nationwide as a result of the closures.
