Inverness households warned of risk of further water supply loss if temporary measures fail following disruption on Monday
A fault to a valve on a water main in Inverness left households in IV2 and IV3 postcodes with no water supply or low pressure for hour yesterday.
Scottish Water have confirmed that temporary measures were put in place yesterday to restore supply after a technical fault with the main valves on a strategic water main supplying part of the city was found.
However they state on their website that there is a risk that the temporary measure which has been put in place may not hold.
"If it fails customers will lose supplies again," the company stated on its website. "This is being closely monitored and we are currently assessing contingency plans to address this should it occur."
Households in Kinmylies, Lochardil, Holm, and Scorguie areas among others reported issues to water supply in their homes from Sunday night.
The same areas were affected by a disruption to the water supply network which lasted for several days in August.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “We would like to apologise to customers in areas of Inverness that experienced disruption to their water supply yesterday (Monday, October 23) as a result of the recurrence of a fault with the main valves on a strategic trunk main which serves part of the city.
“Our team worked yesterday to put temporary measures in place to bring affected customers back into supply as quickly as possible. We are also preparing contingency plans in case of any further disruption until a full repair can be completed.
“We recognise that this issue affected the same group of customers who experienced disruption in August; and appreciate the frustration and inconvenience this causes. We believed we had successfully resolved the problem in August, but following the recurrence of a similar fault we are investigating further with support from technical specialists and the manufacturer of the valves.”
