The site of a former landscaping business looks set to be razed to the ground after an application to demolish the site was lodged.

If approved by Highland Council, then the buildings at 17 Longman Drive will be demolished and the portable containers removed to ready the site for potential future development.

The site previously housed Brandon Landscaping and Fencing.

In the application for the demolition order, applicant Spey Valley Hire Centre Ltd said the site was home to the "office and depot for [a] former landscaping business", adding that "the buildings are in a poor state of repair and of inferior construction, rendering them unfit for reuse".

In drawings accompanying the application it is explained that as well as all containers also being removed and buildings demolished, "areas of hardstanding [will be] broken out [and] railings dividing the site removed".

The site's grounds would then be compacted "ready for future development".

It is not known if Spey Valley Hire Centre Ltd is looking to simply clear the site in anticipation of any future development, or actively planning to redevelop the site for its own use or for that of a tenant.

The site sits directly next to a neighbouring plot in Longman Drive containing an electrical substation for SSEN which is itself currently undergoing major construction work. McGowan Infrastructure Ltd is currently laying 2400 metres of underground cabling from that substation site to Waterloo Place via Cromwell Road and Shore Street. The substation infrastructure in Longman Drive is also being enlarged to a 33/11kV substation in order to increase Inverness’s grid capacity and resilience.
