Local panel board manufacturer Norbord, which is at Morayhill based in Inverness, has moved one step closer to achieving Safety Star Accreditation, by reaching the third stage of the award.
Norbord has always placed a heavy emphasis on health and safety and plans to have all of its sites Safety Star Accredited by the end of 2011.
Norbord’s Safety Star programme is based on OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and combines 23 of its own Safety Expectations into the programme.
The industry leading manufacturer has reached the third stage of the five point plan following its efforts to promote consistent good practice across the company.
John Robb, Production Manager at the Inverness site, said: “To have achieved the third part of this goal already is testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved across the organisation. We are aiming to achieve the fourth part by the end of September, which leaves us on target to be accredited as a Safety Star site by the end of the year."
Steve Roebuck, Director of Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs at Norbord, said: “We set out to create and implement a new safety management system, incorporating all our procedures, in order to create a step change to move us to the next level in our safety performance. All employees have to participate, and it is gratifying that so early in the year, our Inverness site is at Stage three of the programme.”
