Inverness miniature railway on the hunt for volunteers
Ness Islands Railway is on the hunt for volunteers to help offer families and train enthusiasts the chance to experience the joy of miniature locomotives.
Based at Whin Park the mini railway has been a cherished part of Inverness for over 40 years, and help is now needed to keep it on track.
Volunteers can get involved in a variety of roles, from learning to drive the miniature trains and ensuring passenger safety to manning the kiosk and helping with track and grounds maintenance.
Ben Corcoran, a volunteer-turned-staff member, shared his experience: “Volunteering at Ness Islands Railway has allowed me to develop a variety of skills. It truly is an experience like no other. This railway has become such a special part of Inverness, and we want to keep it going for many years to come.”
Owned and operated by Highland Hospice since 2019, the railway not only brings joy to local families but also helps raise vital funds to support hospice services across the Highlands.
Kepa Aristizabal, Highland Hospice’s commerce manager, highlighted the importance of volunteering: “Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do.
“Their dedication helps us run the railway smoothly, providing families with wonderful memories while also supporting the vital work of Highland Hospice. By joining us, you’re not just keeping the trains running—you’re making a real difference to people’s lives.”
