THE Inverness Music Festival drew to a close this week after scores of competitors took to the stage to show their talents in one of the main events in region’s cultural calendar.
The classes during the two-week event included music, song, speech, drama and dance.
The final event, held at Eden Court, was the Premier Competition in which fiddle player Tabitha Beavitt, of Tain Royal Academy, emerged the winner of the Elizabeth Davis Quaich. The competition, introduced last year, features the winners of various classes who achieve distinction level or above.
William Gray, from Blackburn, Aberdeenshire, won the the Curtis Craig Trophy which is held in memory of Mr Craig, who organised the festival for many years.
The festival attracts competitors of all ages and includes performances by individuals as well as school groups.
“I think one of the most important things about the festival is that it gives the schools the opportunity to perform in groups,” said a festival spokeswoman.
“The children get a sense of teamwork and perhaps some discipline from having to work together to produce something which is bigger than the individual.
“With a lot of the performing songs, apart from the discipline and the musical side, there is also the creative side as the children make props as well.”
