Inverness nostalgia: 10 most missed restaurants from Inverness
Inverness has a host of great restaurants and cafes, with many eateries in the city having been featured on lists of the UK’s best.
Many restaurants in the capital closed their doors for good throughout the years, so we've taken a look back at some old favourites.

1. Castle Street Restaurant
The restaurant closed its doors in 2019 after six decades of business in the city centre. Locals loved their crinkle cut chips, burgers and stacks of onions. They were also known for having the ‘strongest malt vinegar’.
2. Stakis Steakhouse
Former Stakis Steakhouse on Bank Street reopened as an Inverness bar, restaurant, live music venue and nightclub in 1997 that was to become known worldwide .
3. Oliver’s
This beloved cafe was well known for its delicious soup, sandwiches and cakes.
4. So Coco
The cafe occupied one of the most prominent sites in the city for five years and closed in 2019. So Coco was a popular restaurant, famed for its Spanish-style chocolate and churros. The unit is now home to a gift shop.
5. Jimmy Chung’s
The first floor Bank Street restaurant with its views over the Ness had been popular with both locals and visitors to Inverness who enjoyed its all-you-can-eat choice of authentic Asian. The Inverness restaurant closed following the owner’s decision to retire, as well as the impact of being forced to close for long periods as a result of Covid.
6. The Filling Station
Many people have said that The Filling Station is sorely missed after the restaurant closed last year in 2023. Inverness’s American diner was situated on Academy street, in the heart of the city centre for over 17-years. The restaurant was known for its American style food and fantastic atmosphere.
7. The Pizza Gallery
This pizzeria was well known for its delicious base dough and garlic bread. Situated along Bridge Street, the unit is now known as a Bella Italia.

8. The Coffee Pot
This quaint cafe used to sit across from Marks and Spencer. It was said to have the ‘best steak pies and onion rolls’.
9. Pizza Land
Pizza Land was situated in the heart of the city centre, along the High Street and was known for its welcoming atmosphere and scrumptious food.
10. Harry Ramsdens
The restaurant shut down its Inverness unit in Inshes Retail Park in 2016 and was known for its fish and chips.
