Inverness on yellow alert for RNLI
NESS Bridge in Inverness will be among Scottish landmarks which will light up yellow on Monday to mark the start of the RNLI’s Mayday campaign.
The landmarks which will be lit the same colour as the charity’s uniforms in a bid to help spread awareness of the lifesaving work of the RNLI’s volunteer crews.
The charity is asking people across Scotland to "do your bit to fund our kit" during May.
Michael Ruiter, RNLI area manager for fundraising, said: “During the month of May we’re asking people across Scotland to do their bit to help fund our volunteer crews’ lifesaving kit.
"The RNLI is entirely funded by the generosity of the public, we wouldn’t exist without them and ‘Mayday’ gives people a chance to get creative and have a bit of fun, all while helping to save lives!
"For example a bake sale that raises £55 would buy a pair of our protective, steel-toed wellies for a crew member and those boots could take part in hundreds of shouts and play their part in saving lives at sea.
"If people want to get involved they can find lots of information at RNLI.org/Mayday.”
In 2018, Scotland’s volunteer lifeboat crews launched 1185 times.
