A customer in an Inverness nightspot had a glass he was holding smashed in his face when another patron barged into him as he left the premises.

At Inverness Sheriff Court, Darren Macrae (35), of Westfield Brae, Inverness, admitted culpably and recklessly causing the item to break in the face of the other man in the early hours of November 27, 2021 in Botanics House in the city’s Castle Street.

Macrae's victim was left bleeding heavily and had to be taken to Raigmore Hospital where he received five stitches, fiscal depute Pauline Gair told Sheriff Gary Aitken.

She added: "On the way to Burnett Road Police Station in a police van, he told officers: 'I admit to pushing the guy.' The complainer was left with a scar."

Sentence was deferred until September 2 for a background report and Macrae's bail was continued.
