Inverness school brings musical to the stage after 3-year delay
Culloden Academy pupils finally take to the stage in their musical Lightning Thief: Percy Jackson musical after a three-year delay due to Covid-19.
A cast of 33, 11-18-year-olds will have their long anticipated moment to shine in performances on June 15, 16 and 17.
The musical is set to inspire young kids to tap into their adventurous-side and encourages a 'dare to dream' mentality, something which music teacher Tassie McMorran believes everyone post-Covid needs: "The musical is our take on Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, originally a series of novels – Culloden Academy are thrilled to present this fantasy and adventure on stage.
"Percy Jackson's story is exciting – he discovers he is a descendant of Gods, goes on a quest, which results in a battle of Gods as well as him discovering his own superpowers.
"It might not seem like it but I think a lot of kids will relate to the character of Percy – kids have to find their feet again after Covid took away their self-esteem and confidence."
The school's last performance was a production of Hairspray in 2018. Ms McMorran said the kids have stepped up to the challenge despite being relatively new to the world of performing.
She said: "There's a real energy and excitement around the school, but also a real nervousness because there hasn't been any musicals these kids have been able to be a part of yet. It's a really big deal for us!"
Tickets to see the musical are already on sale from the school's reception.
