Kilted runner aims for world record time
A RUNNING enthusiast is attempting to beat a world record by taking on the Inverness Half Marathon in a kilt.
Craig Reid (33) will be donning full Highland dress and aiming to finish the course on Sunday in less than two hours and is raising money for Highland Hospice.
"This year I fancied doing something different and have always wanted to own a world record," he said.
"So, when I saw Guinness advertising the Fastest Half Marathon in Highland Dress I thought I would give it a try."
He has taken part in a variety of races in the last few years from 5k to 53 miles covering track, road and hill.
For this event he has to wear a kilt, sporran, belt, waistcoat and jacket.
Mr Reid (right), of Bishopton in Renfrewshire, chose Inverness because he felt it fitted in best with the Highland theme.
"I need to beat two hours, which sounded fine but running in a kilt is harder than I first thought," he added. "Hopefully weather conditions are favourable on the day and I can have a good shot at it."
He is quite confident as his personal best without the kilt is one hour and 13 minutes.
During the Inverness Half Marathon and Inverness 5k there will be temporary traffic orders in place. Alternative routes will be signposted.
