Rail passengers travelling between Inverness and Aberdeen face disruption after landslip between Keith and Huntly
A LANDSLIP has forced the closure of part of the Inverness-Aberdeen rail line, amid an active weather warning for heavy rain.
Earlier this morning (Saturday) Network Rail Scotland announced that a landslip had affected the line in the Huntly area.
A spokesman said: "We're in attendance near Huntly following reports of a landslip in the area. The line is currently closed whilst the necessary investigations are carried out.
"We will look to update you as soon as possible, please follow ScotRail for service updates in the area."
ScotRail confirmed that the slip occurred between Keith and Huntly and that the line is closed between the Moray and Aberdeenshire towns.
"Because of a land slip between Keith and Huntly all lines are closed. Disruption is expected to last until around 10.30am today," they said.
"Train services between Aberdeen and Inverness have been revised.
"Services from Inverness will terminate and start back from Keith, services from Aberdeen will terminate and start back from Huntly. Our staff are due onsite to inspect the damage."
The incident occurred amidst a continuing yellow warning from the Met Office. The alert, which came into force at 6am on Saturday, is expected to remain in place until at least midday.
