Investigations are continuing into a massive blaze in Inverness that destroyed five shops after a car was deliberately rammed into the building – with police silent on progress.

The malicious act of wilful fire-raising happened at Fairways Business Park around midnight last Saturday (March 8), with the fire completely gutting premises through the early hours of Sunday.

A man wearing dark clothing and a balaclava was seen running away from the blaze towards Sir Walter Scott Drive.

The retail spaces were occupied by firms including SJ Travel Centre, Scottish Premium Seafoods, a Harry Gow bakery, and Hair Chic hairdressers.

Police Scotland have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries, while retaining a 24-hour presence at the scene. They also issued an appeal for anyone with dash-cam or other video footage to come forward.

Police Scotland were asked for an update on progress with their investigation, but said this morning they had “nothing to add”.
