Highland community care project celebrates 25th anniversary

A cornerstone of care and connection in the Drumnadrochit area has celebrated 25 years of supporting those in need.

Glenurquhart Care Project supports independent living within the local community having been founded in the mid-1990s and officially opened in 2000.

A celebration event held in the local community centre allowed those who have worked with the service over he years as well as those who benefit from the care it provides to come together for the milestone.

A celebratory afternoon tea was made even more special thanks to generous raffle donations from local businesses including The Loch Ness Clansman Hotel, Loch Ness Drumnadrochit Hotel, The Glen Urquhart Shinty Club and Fiddler’s Restaurant.

A spokesperson said: “The Project extends heartfelt thanks to its dedicated service users, board members, staff, volunteers and local organisations whose continued support makes its work possible.”

Caring for the elderly and vulnerable in the community through the provision of day care at the Glenurquhart Centre, in 2019 a project to create a number of homes for local elderly people in need was also completed.

The two-bedroom properties allow a family member or carer to stay over if required and are designed to be adapted around a person as their needs change.

The project also provides a range of further support services including drop-in lunches; domestic, laundry and handyman services; and talks and events.
