Lego model of Fort George on display as Historic Environment Scotland unveils events programme for 2019
HISTORIC days await as Historic Environment Scotland (HES) has launched its 2019 events programme.
A highlight is set to be the Festival at the Fort, to mark the 250th anniversary of Fort George, where visitors are invited to discover why and how the mighty fortress was created.
There will also be opportunities to explore the enthralling stories the building has collected over the ages, and to learn about and take part in Highland culture, through magical music and energetic dancing.
A Lego replica of Fort George has also been created which is now on display for visitors to view.
Families looking for something different this Easter weekend are invited to take part in the Easter Eggsplorer Trails. Hosted at Fort George and Elgin Cathedral, visitors will be given clues to complete challenges, while exploring the iconic sites.
Stephen Duncan, director of commercial and tourism at HES, said: “The start of the season is always an exciting time for us, as we get ready to welcome new and returning visitors to our sites across the country.
"At Historic Environment Scotland we are passionate about being able to provide experiences that allow locals and visitors to explore Scotland’s rich heritage.
“Embracing the vast history of the country, we’re able to bring the stories of our past to life in new and innovative ways through our programme of events. Our 2019 schedule offers a great way to discover Scotland’s past, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to our venues across the Highlands and further afield.”
