Man accused of murdering Inverness cop has case continued

AN ITALIAN social worker accused of murdering an Inverness-born police officer and chopping up his body, had his case continued without plea after he appeared in court via video link today. (Wed)

Stefano Brizzi, 50, is charged with murdering 59-year-old Gordon Semple in London after allegedly meeting him through a website.

The Metropolitan Police officer was reported missing by his partner when he failed to return home from work on April 1.

Brizzi was arrested at his flat on the Peabody Estate in south London, where Mr Semple’s remains were found.

Brizzi is accused of murdering Mr Semple at some point during the six-day period and appeared via video link at the Old Bailey from maximum security Belmarsh jail,

He spoke only to confirm his name, and was not required to enter a plea.

Brizzi will enter a plea at a hearing on September 9 it is understood, ahead of a trial provisionally scheduled to begin on October 18.

Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC, the recorder of London, said: "Thank you Mr Brizzi, that’s all. Thank you."
