A 24-year-old Lockerbie man who was caught by police in Inverness city centre with replicas of pistols James Bond used to execute his licence to kill will be sentenced next month.

Morton Boldock, of Margaret Drive, appeared on indictment at Inverness Sheriff Court to face a jury trial but pleaded guilty to having the blank firing replica of a Beretta semi automatic pistol without lawful authority or reasonable excuse in the High Street on April 21 last year.

Boldock also admitted possessing a Umarex air weapon - which is a replica of a Glock pistol often carried by 007 and law enforcement officers and military - without a licence.

Sheriff Sara Matheson deferred sentence for a background report until May 20 and Boldock, who was represented by Inverness solicitor David Patterson, had his bail continued.

Fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh told the court: "At 10.15pm on Sunday, April 21, police were on mobile patrol in Inverness city centre when they were stopped by a door steward who advised that a man was highly intoxicated and appeared to be in possession of an illicit substance.

"Police traced the accused within McDonald's restaurant. He was detained and when searching his rucksack, police found a quantity of BB pellets, a quantity of blank rounds, a BB handgun and a blank firing handgun.

"Local armed officers then attended and made the two seized firearms safe," the prosecutor added before making a motion to have the weapons forfeited.

The court heard that Boldock made a no comment interview and was not charged until the following morning due to his level of intoxication.

Mr Patterson reserved his mitigation plea until his client's next appearance when the sheriff will approve Ms Duffy-Welsh's forfeiture motion.
