A woman and her mother were assaulted by her partner after they met at an Inverness supermarket and he was offered a lift home.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that on the journey, 42-year-old Steve Potter, designated as an Inverness prisoner, made derogatory comments towards them and she stopped in Kessock Road to ask him to leave her car or she would phone the police.

Fiscal depute Susan Love told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald: "The accused said if she did he would stab them all and said he hated her. He spat at her mother and punched his partner on the jaw. He was arrested later."

Sentence was deferred until May 13 for a background report on Potter who admitted threatening behaviour and two charges of assault, committed on December 19, last year.

Sheriff Macdonald told him: "You can expect a prison sentence."

Potter was again remanded in custody.
